Bikes and bicycles

Almost everyone learns riding cycle from their chilhood. Only the number of wheels of the cylce changes with the age.learned in childhood and once we have purchased. People used to say bycycling helps one to increase the height. But I agree that it is a very good exercise though.
Nowadays we have the geared cycles and cycles with very advance technologies. But the actual fun is in the basic cycle with no gears. I had a cycle with the basket in the front.
bikes
I love bikes. Specially there are variety of bikes in the market with awesome designs and features. The speed and the average is unbelievable. And also it is very comfortable specially in traffic. You can find your way even if the road is blocked with heavy vehicles. It is fun riding bikes specially in rains. It is also very romantic. I would prefer to go on bike with my husband rather than car.
mountain bikes
I have never ridden the mountain bikes but I can imagine how will it feel riding such bike. We need different things with this like Helmets to provide head  safety, as falls can occur over rough, rocky, sandy, or mountainous. there are different types of helmets like full-faced helmets or regular ones.Gloves made of heavier construction, and often have covered thumbs or all fingers covered for hand protection. They are made with padding for the knuckles.Glasses of cycling sports which help to protect against debris while on the trail. Filtered lenses for cloudy days or shaded for sunny days, protect the eyes from strain. Shoes which generally have gripping soles similar to the hiking boots for scrambling over the unridable obstacles. The shank of mountain bike shoes is generally more flexible than road cycling shoes.
Clothing is chosen for comfort during physical exertion in the backcountry, and its ability to withstand falls. Road touring clothes are often inappropriate due to their delicate fabrics and construction. We also need pump to inflate flat tires. We need the bike tools and extra bike tubes are important, as mountain bikers frequently find themselves miles from help, with flat tires or other mechanical problems that must be handled by the one who rides the bike.

Commute, exercise, discover and revitalize yourself.

Bicycling is one the best means for recreation. Mountain bikes are the best option if you want to drive fast into the woods. The excitement to paddle downhill and race behind a speeding car will leave you with unforgettable memories. Mountain bikes are just like hybrid bikes, except the fact that they are more suited to drive off the road. Bicycling is a pleasure with full suspension mountain bikes. It is no wonder that more and more people are choosing bicycling as their means of transport nowadays. It allows you to select the narrow lanes that are actually short cuts to your office or tennis club. You can change your plans on a whim. If you feel you can not drive anymore, just throw it inside a truck or a car. Life seems to have a lot of options with a bicycle. You are not bound to stay numb for hours in a traffic jam. You need not look down at your belly, feeling worried over the ever increasing weight and doctor’s advice to eat calorie free food which seems to be an impossible thing to do. Health benefits of bicycling are amazing. Your bike will let you exercise while you meet interesting people, discover fine restaurants and coffee shops and encounter a wildlife adventure. While taking a decision to buy a bike, do consider the advice from reputed websites and pay attention to the bike reviews. People who have used these bikes earlier know the best and worst about them. Place yourself over the seat and see how the handle fits on your hands. More than seat quality material, pay attention to your posture. You need not buy a bike with a hefty price tag to satisfy your hunger for bicycling. A regular mountain bike can be just okay if your income doesn’t allow you to purchase that hybrid bike with a dozen features which are not actually needed. The bike you need is the one that suits you the best. Your neighborhood, age, health and posture on the bike are few among the various parameters that you should consider before getting a new mountain bike for yourself.

Triking with my Terrier

October 13th, 2009 by bikes No comments »

I live with chronic pain and can barely walk, but everyday I put on my sunglasses, my sun hat and take my tiny rat terrier for a vigorous run next to my trike.  I love my adult tricycle.  I feel young and vigorous as I pedal through my suburban neighborhood.   I  had trouble learning how to ride a bike since I was a child, but always wanted to be out riding in the wind.   I tried once again riding a regular bike in my 20’s  and ended up crashed into a parked truck and flung over the handlebars.   It was so disappointing to have such poor arm strength that I could not manage to keep a bike straight on a path.  I always regretted not being able to ride with my husband and my daughter.

Finally decades later,  I swallowed my embarrassment, braced up some courage and bought a trike at a friendly bike shop.   The low cross piece allows me to step into the bike area without discomfort.  The trike is so easy to steer.   If  I get fatigued, I can rest on the comfy tractor like seat and look at the view and day dream till I catch my wind and get going again.  I feel safe in the balanced seating and allow myself to get up to a (purely imaginary) break neck speed, knowing that I can stop the bike easily with the hand brakes.

My terrier is so energetic, she loves running along side me on a flexible snap lead.   She gets the exercise she needs,  I get a pick me up and we bring smiles to neighbors as we frolic down the street.  Each day we have ventured out a bit farther as I gain strength, till we managed to bike up to the nearby dog park.   I took a chance and brought the bike inside the park and slowly road it around with her as other dog owners walked with their dogs.   It was such a pick me up to be able to keep up with her as she romped around the park, and I had enough energy to bike back home.

Biking has made me healthier, happier and more social.  It reduces my pain level and brightens my mood.    I feel able and normal at least for a little while.

The Joys and Sorrows of the Beginning Biker

October 13th, 2009 by bikes No comments »

Biking is something that I have always enjoyed doing. I love being able to get out, feeling the wind rushing by as I pedal down the road. I have never bicycled for sport but more just for pleasure. I love being able to get out and enjoy the world around me at my own pace. I was really excited to pass my love of bicycling down to my children. I just couldn’t wait to get my daughter her first bike. We went all out when she was finally old enough to learn to ride a “big girl” bike. No more tricycles or training wheels, she was ready to roll. We took her to the store on her birthday and let her pick out whatever bike she wanted. It was pink, of course, complete with pink basket, pink horn and pink ribbons streaming down the handle bars. We got her fitted with a pink bicycling helmet and we were off. I could hardly contain the excitement I felt as we got ready for our first ride. There was just one little issue to conquer first and that was learning to ride without training wheels. No big deal I thought. Just a simple lesson and we would be off. I soon discovered there is nothing simple about taking that first ride completely on your own. I quickly learned that it takes practice to learn to balance your first bike and I mean lots of practice. Soon my day was not filled with my feet on the pedals but hitting the pavement as I ran beside my daughter, one hand on the handle bars and the other firmly holding onto the back of the seat. That brings us to the second mountain to conquer when you are first learn to riding, letting go. It amazed me how once it was noticed that I was letting go the bike when seem to promptly crash. Kisses and hugs would make it all better, followed by a determination to try once again. After awhile I began to get discouraged (and I little achy from all that bended over running). I wondered if learning to ride a bike was worth all this effort and then something amazing happened. One hand let go and then the other and my daughter was off. As I whooped and hollered I saw the look in her eyes. The look of excitement and joy as she raced down the street, with the wind rushing past and I knew that learning to ride a bike was worth every minute.

some famous author said men are from mars and women are from venus. no im not saying any romantic stuff i just want to say that men have different tastes and point of view when it comes to different issues and even in men there are differences in various issues but there is one thing common in almost all of the men is the need for speed and the need for adrenaline rush some men do it to prove a point ,some do it to impress women and some do it to show off what ever the reason is the women like it and as long as it stays like that we don’t care right.there are various toys for us which help us be speed demons from bikes,cars,jet-ski’s,roller blades, etc.but according to many the best way to experience the rush is to ride a bike why?because while doing so there is nothing between you and the surrounding environment and you get to face the blowing wind through your hair .there are different types of bikes for different kind of people.if you are a speed demon then there are super bikes, if you want to cruise around the country side then there are the choppers and if you are an adrenaline junkie then there are mountain bikes.it doesn’t matter what ever your ride is the important thing is to enjoy it and do it in an safeway.if you want to go to the basics then the thing which is highly advisable is mountain bicycling it is as adventurous and thrilling as riding a bike not only that there are also an added advantage to it that is you will be getting a lot of cardio exercise so it is a double whammy.so given all the above thrill’s and advantages it is only common that men are bike freaks or to put it an decent manner bike enthusiasts.one can tell a lot about a man by observing how he handles his ride.

Especially the mountains covered with forests are most interesting, When you planning  for a trip, select a dense mountain which is like less populated area and select your most compatible friends for the travel, For a comfortable and enjoyable journey, three bikes are enough because more than three bikes will cause delay problem during traveling.

If you are bike lover then no problem then there will be no problem during traveling, but if anyone not well with the basic bike knowledge regarding the repairs, dont allow them for non stop travel,or else keep following the bike or make them to follow you. Check with your fuel on all bikes. These are some basic guidelines you should hold it down on your mind.

Regarding the enjoyment, its unlimited. First of all, Dont be strict among other tour mates be flexible and be loose in control. Do things whatever you want, If you want to stop at one location just stop it,relax and go. Be free during every location, enjoy well. Bike Shops in Gainesville Asks, What do you know about bikes

When thinking about the type of bike riding you’re most likely to do, if you’re going to be riding exclusively on pavement and want to go pretty fast and/or ride long distances, a road bike is probably what you want. Designed for racing, road bikes typically have a lightweight frame which is designed to allow the upright rider to maintain the most aerodynamic position possible.

Wheels: A road bike typically has narrow, smooth high pressure tires that minimize contact with the road to provide the least rolling resistance possible. As these types of tires allow you to feel each bump and pebble in the road, it’s not necessarily the most comfortable ride, but that’s not the intent.

Frame: The material used in road bike frames, like most other bikes will vary depending on their cost. In general terms, the more expensive a frame is, the lighter it will be. Having a lighter bike is most important in climbing, though it also factors into downhills and riding in the flats. A heavier bike usually translates into somewhat slower times for competitive riders, though that may not be important to you.

Most entry level bikes have either steel (”cro-moly”) or aluminum frames these days, though I’d venture that aluminum is becoming the predominant material for basic road bike frames. There is certainly nothing wrong with either choice, but there are trade-offs. For instance, for aluminum to be strong enough to be durable over the long haul, the frame must be pretty stiff, which may translates into a slightly rougher ride. Steel may be heavier, but can flex more at the same weight, which can cushion the bumps a bit. The best way to find out which is right for you is to ride several different bikes and see if you can tell a difference.

As the price of the road bike goes up, you’ll start to see components (such as the front fork) switching from aluminum to carbon. Finally the whole frame on higher end bikes will be made of carbon fiber, which is very strong and yet light weight at the same time. The frames on the most sophisticated and high performance road bikes are made from space age materials like titanium, which is both amazingly strong and light. Because of the expense of these materials, these bikes typically fall beyond the range of all but the most serious or competitive cyclists.

Handlebars: Road bike handlebars go out straight from the stem and then curl under, allowing riders who want to go really fast to hunch over when riding at that point, in order to reduce wind resistance. This is known as going into the drops. Riders can also sit in a more upright position, with their hands on the flat, top part of the handlebars. Typically, you’ll find both the brake levers and the gear shift levers mounted on the handlebars of a road bike for easy control.

Riding position: The way that a road bike is designed allows riders to bend far forward, reducing their profile and cutting down on wind resistance, along with putting them in a position to drive maximum power from their legs and hips through the pedals. While aerodynamic, being hunched over like this for any length of time may not be the most comfortable position for some riders as it requires you to support a substantial portion of your body weight with the upper body. This can cause strain and soreness in the hands, wrists, shoulders and neck if a rider is not used to it, or is riding a bike for which they might not be properly fitted or sized.

Gears: Road bikes have a wide range of gearing, with low gears that allow a rider to more easily climb steep hills up through rather high gear choices that a rider uses to go really fast. Typically a road bike will have either two or three chain rings as part of the crank assembly in the front along with eight or nine gears in the cassette on the rear wheel. This combination allows for anywhere from 16 to 27 possible gear combinations, a broader range than yesterday’s typical ten-speed afforded.

Pedals: Basic road bikes may come equipped with platform pedals. If this is the case, toe clips are usually a standard accompaniment, or may be added quite cheaply. However, clipless pedals are frequently/usually used on road bikes, which allow the rider to clip his or her cleated shoes to the pedals, providing the ability to drive the pedals through the full rotation of the circle, pulling up on the pedals during the upstroke as well as pushing them down.

Typical road bike accessories: cyclocomputer, frame pump, tool bag, water bottle and cage.

Major brands: There are almost as many road bike manufacturers as there are riders. Major manufacturers include Specialized, Trek Bianchi, LeMond and Cannondale.

Buying advice: If you are buying a new bike and are reasonably certain you’re going to stick with it for a while, buy the best frame you can afford, and if you have to cut corners to save some money, do it on the components. You can always upgrade them later. Buying a bike with a junky, heavy frame to save a few bucks will usually prove unsatisfactory, and you’ll end up buying a whole new bike later, rather than being able to improve it piece-by-piece as your desires and wallet allow.

Biking in Gainesville, FL to stay fit!

October 13th, 2009 by bikes No comments »

Biking is one of the best ways to stay fit. It is a simple exercise that can be part of your routine or can be given special time to help you stay fit! Some tips to help you stay fit yet keep you prepared for biking:

Buying the right gear: It is very important to buy the correct gear – especially the appropriate bike that can be easily serviced without needing to go to a service station. If you are keen to save do keep in mind the less expensive the bike the more heavy it is likely to be. Also remember to get the bike fitted to your size or you will have a problem when going uphill or when you have to bike for a longer distance than normal.

Do remember safety first always so do keep your helmet and additional pads and gear on at all times. Remember, your hands and legs can heal with time but if you are not careful about your head and neck you can wind up with serious trouble for an accident which may not even be your fault so be safe. Another additional safety measure would be shatter proof glasses which can protect your eyes in the eventuality that you fall down.

Do you know how to fix a flat tire? Or in the event that the chains are out of place can you replace them? Ask your local bike shop to help you sort these sorts of problems out so you can learn from professionals.

Lastly keep in mind you will need to stretch and do a few exercises on a daily basis once you begin to cycle. This is best done before your ride to help your body wake up. It’s just like taking a shower before heading in the pool, gets your body attuned to the environment.
